October 2026 roundup: Ghana inflation at 5.2 percent, cedi at 11.7059

GHDatafie,

Ghana's annual inflation rate was 5.2 percent in September 2026, according to figures the Ghana Statistical Service published on 7 October 2026. The Bank of Ghana's interbank mid rate was 11.7059 cedis per US dollar on 13 October 2026, in figures published on 14 October 2026.

Ghana's annual inflation rate was 5.2 percent in September 2026, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), which published the figure on 7 October 2026. The Bank of Ghana (BoG) published daily interbank exchange rates on 14 October 2026, and the latest of them was 11.7059 cedis per US dollar on 13 October 2026. All the figures shown are marked final by GHDatafie. They are given as published, and either institution may revise them later.

Inflation in September 2026

Inflation (the headline consumer price index, year on year) measures how much the average price of the goods and services households buy has changed compared with the same month a year earlier. GSS publishes it to one decimal place.

The September 2026 figure of 5.2 percent compares with 5.0 percent in August 2026, according to GSS. GHDatafie calculated that inflation was 0.2 percentage points higher than the month before. A year earlier, in September 2025, inflation was 9.4 percent, and GHDatafie calculated that September 2026 was 4.2 percentage points lower. Prices were still rising in September 2026, at a slower pace than a year before.

In the figures shown, which begin in June 2023, inflation fell in every month of 2025 and reached its lowest point, 3.2 percent, in March 2026. It has been above that level in each month since. The chart above shows every month.

A lower inflation rate means prices rise more slowly. It does not mean prices fall. GHDatafie calculated that, at a yearly rate of 5.2 percent, something that cost GH₵100 in September 2025 costs GH₵105.2 in September 2026, on average. Your own costs may differ from the average, depending on what you buy.

GSS calculates each figure on the index base in force when it was published (2012 = 100, then 2021 = 100). Where GSS later restated a figure, GHDatafie keeps the change as a revision.

The cedi against the US dollar

The interbank mid rate is the middle of the rates at which banks trade dollars with each other, as BoG publishes it each working day. It is given in cedis per US dollar, so a higher figure means a dollar costs more cedis.

On 13 October 2026 the rate was 11.7059, according to BoG. On 12 October 2026 it was 11.7700, and GHDatafie calculated that the rate was 0.0641 cedis lower from one day to the next. On that day a dollar cost slightly fewer cedis.

In the figures shown, which begin on 18 August 2026 at 11.0450, the rate rose on most working days and reached its highest point, 11.8300, on 7 October 2026. It has been below that level since. The chart above has every daily value.

GHDatafie calculated that at 11.7059 cedis per dollar on 13 October 2026, US$100 is GH₵1,170.5900. The rate you get at a bank or forex bureau may differ, because the interbank rate applies to trades between banks.

BoG overwrites its rate tables in place, so GHDatafie keeps each version as it stood when exported and records later changes as revisions. Days BoG shows as 0.0000 have no value.
