The cedi-dollar interbank mid rate explained, latest figure for 13 October 2026

GHDatafie,

On 13 October 2026, one US dollar cost 11.7059 cedis at the interbank mid rate, according to the Bank of Ghana. That was 0.0641 cedis lower than on 12 October 2026, a change GHDatafie calculated.

On 13 October 2026, the Bank of Ghana's interbank mid rate was 11.7059 cedis per US dollar. The day before, 12 October 2026, it was 11.7700. GHDatafie calculated that the rate was 0.0641 cedis lower from one day to the next. In plain terms, a dollar cost slightly fewer cedis on 13 October than on 12 October.

What the interbank mid rate measures

The interbank mid rate is the number of Ghana cedis needed to buy one US dollar in the market where banks trade currencies with each other. "Mid" means the rate sits halfway between the price at which dollars are bought and the price at which they are sold. The Bank of Ghana publishes one figure for each trading day, given to four decimals. GHDatafie carries the figures exactly as the Bank of Ghana shows them.

The series on GHDatafie starts in July 2007, with the first figure dated 9 July 2007, and has 4,755 published dates. Rates from before the redenomination of the cedi were in old cedis and are not carried. Days that the Bank of Ghana shows as 0.0000 have no value, so you will see gaps for those days, and for days with no published figure at all.

How to read the figure

The rate tells you the price of a dollar in cedis. When the number goes up, a dollar costs more cedis, which means the cedi has weakened against the dollar. When the number goes down, a dollar costs fewer cedis, and the cedi has strengthened. The 0.0641 fall between 12 and 13 October 2026 is a small move in the cedi's favour.

An everyday example helps. At 11.7059 cedis per dollar on 13 October 2026, GHDatafie calculated that US$100 is GH₵1,170.5900 at the interbank mid rate. If you pay school fees, buy imported goods or receive money from abroad, that figure gives you a reference point for what a dollar was worth on that day.

How the rate has moved recently

Among the figures shown, the lowest is 11.0450 on 18 August 2026. From there the rate rose on most trading days through late August and September. It reached 11.8300 on 7 October 2026, the highest of the figures shown, and then eased back to 11.7059 by 13 October. You can follow every daily value in the chart above.

Common misunderstandings

The interbank mid rate is the rate between banks. Banks and forex bureaus set their own buying and selling rates for customers, so the rate you are offered at a counter can differ from the published figure. Treat the interbank mid rate as a reference for the market, and check the rate you will actually pay.

A higher number can look like good news, but it means the opposite for the cedi. A rise from 11.0450 to 11.8300 means a dollar cost more cedis, so the cedi bought fewer dollars. Keep the direction straight: up means a weaker cedi, down means a stronger one.

A single day's move says little about the longer path. The rate can rise for weeks and then dip for a day or two, as it did in early October 2026. Look at the chart over several weeks before drawing a conclusion.

Revisions

All the figures shown are marked final. The Bank of Ghana updates its rate tables in place, so GHDatafie keeps each version as it stood when exported and records any later changes as revisions. Figures are as published and may be revised.
