Ghana producer price inflation rises to 4.4 percent in August 2026

GHDatafie,

Producer price inflation in Ghana was 4.4 percent in August 2026, according to provisional figures from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) published on 16 September 2026. That is 0.4 percentage points higher than July 2026, GHDatafie calculated.

Prices received by Ghana's producers were 4.4 percent higher in August 2026 than in August 2025, according to the Ghana Statistical Service. The figure is provisional. GSS published it on 16 September 2026.

In July 2026 the rate was 4.0 percent, also provisional. GHDatafie calculated that the August rate is 0.4 percentage points higher than July's.

What the figure measures

The Producer Price Index (PPI) tracks the prices producers get for what they make and sell, before goods reach shops. GSS reports it for all activities combined. The figure here is the year-on-year change in that index, which compares prices in one month with the same month a year earlier.

A rate of 4.4 percent means producer prices are still rising, though slowly. A rate that goes up from one month to the next means producer prices are rising faster than before. A lower rate would mean they are rising more slowly, not that they are falling. Prices only fall when the rate goes below zero.

For an everyday picture, GHDatafie calculated that at a yearly rate of 4.4 percent, something that cost GH₵100 in August 2025 costs GH₵104.4 in August 2026, on average. Keep in mind that this is about prices at the producer's gate. Shop prices are measured separately.

How August compares

The year-on-year rate has moved up and down during 2026. Among the figures shown, the lowest this year was 1.4 percent in February 2026. It climbed through the spring to a high for the year of 5.8 percent in May 2026, eased in June, and has risen again in July and August. The chart above has every value.

The figures shown also include a single reading for April 2025, which is well above any 2026 figure. There is no August 2025 rate among the figures shown, so a direct comparison with the same month a year earlier is not available here. GSS's archive has gaps, with no newsletters between August 2022 and January 2026 apart from April 2025. As a result, the series on GHDatafie runs from April 2025 and then resumes in February 2026.

Every figure in this story is marked provisional by GSS. Figures are shown as published and may be revised.
