Ghana's real GDP growth was 6.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2026

GHDatafie,

Ghana's economy was 6.0 per cent larger in the second quarter of 2026 (April to June) than in the same quarter of 2025, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). The figure is provisional and was published on 9 September 2026. It is slightly below the revised 6.4 per cent recorded for the first quarter of 2026.

Real GDP growth in Ghana was 6.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Ghana Statistical Service. The figure compares output in April to June 2026 with output in April to June 2025. GSS published it on 9 September 2026 and marks it as provisional, so it may change in a later edition.

How the quarter compares

Growth in the first quarter of 2026 was 6.4 per cent, a figure GSS has since revised. GHDatafie calculated that the second-quarter figure is 0.4 percentage points lower than that.

A year earlier, in the second quarter of 2025, growth was 6.6 per cent (also revised). GHDatafie calculated that growth in the latest quarter is 0.6 percentage points lower than in the same quarter a year before.

A lower growth figure still means the economy grew. In the second quarter of 2026 Ghana produced more than it did a year earlier. The gain was a little smaller than in the two comparison quarters.

What the figures shown look like

The chart above shows quarterly growth from the third quarter of 2016 to the second quarter of 2026. Over that stretch growth was positive in most quarters. The clear exception is 2020: in the second quarter of that year the figure was minus 5.6 per cent, meaning the economy was smaller than a year earlier. Growth returned in the last quarter of 2020. Since 2024 the figures shown have mostly stayed between 4.0 and 7.5 per cent. You can hover over the chart to see every quarter.

What real GDP growth measures

Gross domestic product (GDP) is the value of all the goods and services produced in Ghana in a period. GSS measures it by adding up what each part of the economy produces, which it calls the production approach.

The word real means price changes have been taken out. GSS values output at constant 2013 prices, so the figure shows whether the country produced more, rather than whether the same things simply cost more. Year on year means each quarter is compared with the same quarter of the previous year. That avoids mixing up normal seasonal ups and downs, such as harvest periods, with real change.

For a trader or a household, the figure is a broad measure of how much the whole economy produced. It does not show how any one sector, region or family did.

Revisions

GSS often restates earlier quarters as it gathers more complete data. Every quarter from the start of 2024 to the first quarter of 2026 carries a revised flag, and the latest quarter is provisional. GHDatafie keeps GSS's own markers. All figures here are as published and may be revised.

The full series, which starts in 2007 and has 78 published quarters, is on the real GDP growth page. Other recent publications are listed on the releases page.

Where the figures come from

The figures come from the Ghana Statistical Service's rebased quarterly GDP bulletin, using its constant GDP table, and are shown to one decimal place as GSS displays them. GHDatafie compiles them and is independent of, and not endorsed by, GSS. See the Real GDP growth, year on year series page.
